My good friend Peter showed me around the south side trails of China Camp, one of my favorite riding spots in the Bay Area. I was in for a treat. He just bought an amazing house nearby, so we started our ride from there, snaking our way to the top of the San Pedro open space. The single track was razor thin, hugging a steep slope the entire way through. There were some nice root and rock drops, some of which I couldn't clean without dabbing and/or walking, but for the most part it's rideable. A dropper post is definitely necessary to have the best time.
At the top we dropped down some gnarly stuff back into the main loop of China Camp. It was a night and day difference in terrain. We caught up to a few riders before making our way back onto the south side trails. We even hit the infamous Hitler trail, a short and very steep, rutted and rooted section where you're better off picking your way through rather than bombing it. It was scary and fun. I'll definitely be back for more.
